    This is a vintage photogravure reproduction of a 19th-century oil painting entitled, A Portrait, by artist, Julius LeBlanc Stewart.

    Son of the wealthy expatriate art collector, William StewartJulius LeBlanc Stewart spent his entire career abroad, socializing and working among the American expatriate society and European high society.

    A photogravure is a photographic intaglio process whereby a copper plate is grained and then coated with a light-sensitive gelatin tissue which had been exposed to a film positive and then etched, resulting in high-quality intaglio plate that can reproduce detailed continuous tones of a photograph.
