From The Citrus Report:
News rooms used to be bustling with reporters, photographers, copy editors, managing editors, fact-checkers, publishers, deputy editors, photo editors, editors-at-large, metro reporters, secretaries, art directors, and layout artists. All in one place. All putting together one magazine, newspaper or disposable collection of data and facts. All and all, it took an army to report the news.

Today, it takes a machine of one to facilitate information. One man/woman. A computer. A hero. A complete disregard to time and tradition. An indifference to accuracy. A celebration and performance of individual glory. Our evolution has depended on it.

The Citrus Report, an online entity of pop culture happenings and complete non-happenings, will open its office doors to the public from August 11-August 26 to discuss daily news occurrences, Madlib, current events, contemporary art, San Francisco Giants baseball, political mishaps, morning rituals, high-end denim, BP CEOs, soccer moms, graffiti, social networking, and Phil Spector hits.

WHEN SUPERSTARS RULED THE WORLD

August 4, 2010 – 10:30 AM

Lazarides Gallery is pleased to announce the final exhibition in the temporary Beverly Hills space. “When Superstars Ruled The World” will be the first US exhibition for British artist Jay Jay Burridge and promises to be the most talked about show of the summer.

Presenting with the Lazarides Gallery for the first time, Jay Jay Burridge has brought dinosaurs of enormous proportion back to life morphing them to fit our fashionable modern lives. The breathtaking scale of Jay Jay’s sculptures in contrast with the simplicity of the construction makes the re-invention of these classic beasts truly extraordinary and appeals to everyone who was once a child…

When Superstars Ruled the World will feature ten huge hand-built dinosaurs made of industrial packing materials, manipulated into occasional activities such as sipping tea, playing instruments, surfing and break-dancing. Jay Jay’s commercial approach to creating art will make fashion inspired multiples available to collectors of all stripes…especially those who get a kick out of standing in line to collect the latest sneaker release.

Jay Jay Burridge: In 1994, Jay Jay made a major impact during his final degree show at Central St. Martins College of Art in London. Standing 20 feet tall and stretching 40 feet long stood three self-assembled dinosaurs. His artwork dominated the show and his unusual commercial approach singled him out as one to watch. Following the exhibition, Jay Jay was chosen to host the legendary BBC TV show Smart. For eight years, Jay Jay helped inspire a new generation of artists before jumping ship to pursue his other artistic endeavors. Several very successful artistic ventures later, he acquired the knowledge to complete the task he started back at college.

“I recently rediscovered some simple tricks that I developed whilst working on the TV show and coupled this with production values gained from time spent as a commercial artist. These have enabled me to simply fold, twist and stick together just 2 basic materials into huge dinosaurs” - Jay Jay Burridge

“Unlike most artists, everyone knows what Jay Jay looks like, especially as his portrait is one of Banksy’s iconic stencils and it is good to see that he is still making things out of sticky plastic, just on a mammoth scale.” – Steve Lazaridespara poster
